This story and these two characters have been burrowing around in my brain for a long time now. They first turned up in a thriller I wrote for Channel 4 (LIVE FEED) but their relationship was not fully fledged or their characters fully realised. I was really interested in how a working relationship could be sustained by a powerful sexual dependency, and I found the perfect outlet for this obsession in a story about how media intrusion into the lives of others has a karmic effect, changing the lives both of the subjects and the watchers. It also connected up to my feelings about recent wars, how we are all connected and permanently affected by these military adventures. It was liberating to be working within a genre, something I usually avoid. I always loved how, in ‘Don’t Look Now’,Nicholas Roeg made the most perfect horror film out of a serious study of grief- just because it’s a genre movie, doesn’t mean it can’t be actually about something – and wanted to make something that was similarly cinematically terrifying, but also personal and serious. Nothing is as scary as reality.

SYNOPSIS

Mick and Cat, two seasoned documentary makers who entwine their work together with an extreme and bizarre psycho-sexual game, are at a critical point in their working relationship. They start to become haunted by the victims of their recent documentaries as their relationship is threatened by change.

STATUS

Ewen Bremner is attached to play Mick. It is budgeted at £1million and the script is ready to shoot.
